A Rare Day
Mt Hood is notorious for its weather. The mountain is frequently enshrouded in clouds, and icy winds blast its western face more often than not. It has claimed many lives via avalanches and climbing accidents. It is a mountain that is generally in a bad mood.
However, on rare occasions, the mountain sheds its natural disposition and surprises us. Such a day was April 6, 2009, when Mt Hood decided to eschew its natural inclemency and rise up into a warm, windless, cloudless spring sky.
By the way, it is interesting to note that Mt Hood Meadows is an unusual ski resort in having a southeast face. This is a testament to the quantity of snow this mountain can intercept from Pacific Northwest winter storms.
